Beautiful Colourful Lipstick That Lasts All Day

Lipstick that lasts all day

Have you ever seen those adverts on TV where they promise that their brand of lipstick will stay bright and smudge free no matter how much you eat, drink or smooch? It's a big promise, but there are ways that you can keep your lips pouty and pretty all throughout the day by just following some simple tips.

Preparation is Everything

  1. Base - apply a base, such as Prep + Prime from MAC, or even easier apply a thin layer of your usual foundation to your lips, then apply your lip-liner and lipstick in the usual way.  Using foundation will slightly tone down your lipcolour, but it will give it a lot more staying power.
  2. Lipliner - always use a lip liner - don't go for that obvious darker line around your lips which looks so false, but choose a liner which matches your lipstick and carefully line around your lips. There's a lot of advice around for people with thinner lips to line just outside the natural lipline, but this can look unnatural and I would suggest following your natural lipline and using a lighter shade to make the lips appear more full.
  3. Layers - apply more than one layer of lipstick following tip number 1 remembering to blot your lips with tissue inbetween applications.  The more layers the more possibility of keeping your colour on your lips. When blotting your lips don't squeeze the tissue between your lips but apply the tissue flat to your lips - there's a lot less chance of smudging.
  4. Blotting and Powder - Follow tip number 2, but when you place the tissue over your lips dust the tissue with your powder brush loaded with your usual powder.  A tiny amount of powder will filter through the tissue and will set the layers of lipstick like it does with foundation.
  5. Lip Pencils and Lip Brushes

  6. Use your lip pencil - not just to outline your lips but fill them in and this acts as a perfect base.  You can use either a lipstick over the top or just a gloss to give a great shiny finish.
  7. Lipbrushes - use a good quality lipbrush which ensures solid and even coverage which will last much longer than applying the lipstick directly onto your lips.
  8. Lip Sealers and Moisturising

  9. ChapStick - Apply a thin layer of ChapStick over your lipstick as this acts as a fixative - it also comes in lots of yummy flavours which is an added benefit.  Or go for a lipstick sealer.
  10. Matte Lipsticks - greasy or glossy lipsticks are a lot less likely to last the day than their matte counterparts, so choose a good matte lipstick such as L'Oreal Colour Endure or Colour Riche.
  11. Moisturising - it's so important to keep your lips smooth and moist so that the lipstick you do apply looks great all day. So to keep any dry skin at bay, when you've brushed your teeth at night, use your toothbrush to gently brush your lips which will smooth away any dry skin and load them up with a good lip-salve or Vaseline.
  12. Eating - generally it's a good idea to stay away from very oily foods - as no matter how well you have applied your lippy - oil will attack it straight away and you will find that your hard work will probably be wasted.

Following these tips should give you beautiful, colourful lipstick that lasts all day long - but the best tip of all is to remember to keep smiling - beautifully applied lipstick looks even better with a smile.
