We Love Emma Watson's New And Striking Look With Her Gold Leaf And Smokey Eye Makeup

How she has grown up! We have watched Emma grow up from a cute, fluffy-haired little schoolgirl in the first Harry Potter film (where she was admittedly a bit of a know-it-all!) into a pretty and attractive starlet who is as comfortable on the red carpet as she would be in her own home. At the New York premiere of the Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows Part II, Emma monopolised the red carpet in her Bottega Veneta golden dress. Although the dress is amazing, we were mostly interested in her amazing smokey, gold leaf eye makeup. We might not be able to afford the dress for this season's parties, but the eye makeup is definitely something that is attainable, and we have found out just how to create this amazing look, which would look fantastic at Christmas and New Year parties, or just anytime you get an excuse to put on some dramatic and sparkling eyes.

How To Create Emma's Gold Leaf Smokey Eye Makeup

  • To start, prepare your skin using a light, natural foundation and apply over your face to give a flawless and light coverage. If you have any imperfections, use a concealer to lightly cover any shadows etc.
  • Using a black eyeshadow, and a good eyeshadow blender or brush, work the shadow all over your eyelid up to the creaseline and then create a wing effect on the outer corner of your eye. You might want to dust below your eyes with loose translucent face powder before applying the black eyeshadow, as this will help you to brush away gently any eyeshadow which falls below your eyes without creating any smudges.
  • Then using a black kohl eyeliner pencil, apply all along the lower lash line, smudging the eyeliner to soften the look underneath the lashes. Then apply the eyeliner to the inner edge of your lower lashes to create definition.
  • Using a good black mascara, coat both your upper and lower lashes twice to add to the dramatic effect.
  • Then with a gold glitter eyeshadow, which can be found in makeup collections such as Rimmel or Barry M, apply the gold eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyelid and blend it into the inner corner of the lower lid.
  • You will need some eye jewels to complete this look, and these are available at Boots, Superdrug or online, apply these to the outer corners of your eyes, following the instructions, using three or four.

  • To finish off the look apply a natural peachy, pink powder blusher to the apples of your cheeks, and then blend up along your cheekbones. For your lips, apply a natural dusky pink lipstick, don't use a lipliner, but keep the colour looking natural. Relatively neutral lips are the way to go with such dramatic eyes.

The only thing to do now is to wait for your friends to be amazed when they see your new, dramatic look for the party season!

How To Get Cheryl Cole's False Eyelash Look

Cheryl Cole is a lover of false eyelashes - both now and when she was with Girls Aloud. In fact there is a whole range of false lashes for each of the girls from Girls Aloud that you can buy in most beauty stores, by Eylure. Cheryl's lashes are full, long, lush dense lashes, and she is pictured wearing them here.

If you have never worn false lashes it can be a daunting prospect applying them. We suggest buying a pair and wearing them around the house until you get used to them, and feel confident that they are not going to attach themselves to the first person you kiss on the cheek on a big night out!

How To Apply False Eyelashes In Six Easy Steps

  • Start with very clean eyelids, there must be no traces of oil or moisturiser on your eyelids or the adhesive on the lashes will not work.
  • When you get your false lashes you will probably have to trim the length of them. Measure them against your top eyelid and remove a lash, one at a time, until you get the correct length. You may also have to trim the length of the actual lashes - if you do, follow the natural curve of the lashes and use a pair of very sharp nail scissors.
  • Next you need to apply the adhesive supplied with the lashes to the eyelashes, never to your eyelid as you are in danger of gluing your eye shut! A good tip is to squeeze out a little of the adhesive and using a cocktail stick, apply a thin line all along the lash base.
  • If you are applying a full set of lashes start at the inner corner of your eye and apply the lashes as close to your natural lash line as possible, pressing gently. If this is too fiddly you might want to use tweezers for this job. If you are applying just a few clumps of false lashes to the outer corner of your top eyelid you can start from the outer corner.
  • You can now go ahead and apply eyeshadow and liquid eyeliner to complete the look.
  • When you have had enough of your lashes use an oil based eye makeup remover, and let this soak into the falsies for a few minutes. This should release them from your eyelids, make sure you don't pull them to get them off as the skin around your eyes is very sensitive. False eyelashes can be used a few times if you look after them, wash off any glue when you have finished with them and dry them off before putting them away.

How To Pick Out The Best Style Of Glasses For You

Cate Blanchett wearing blue framed glasses

I recently went for a bi-yearly eye test at one of our more popular opticians and was amazed to find out when chatting with the optician that almost two-thirds of the adult population wear glasses or contact lenses - in the main glasses! Having a look at some of the designer ranges they stocked, I was actually just that little, tiny bit disappointed when the optician confirmed that my eyes were healthy and my eyesight satisfactory without the addition of some great designer accessory that now passes as the ordinary and everyday pair of glasses. Picking glasses out from the amazing array of styles available is not always an easy choice though and here are some great tips that will help you choose the right style for you.

Different Face Shapes Suit Different Styles of Glasses

  • Oval faces - You may have the perfect, symmetrical oval face and if this the case you may be a model and practically every style should suit you.
  • Round faces - Although smaller glasses are trendy at the moment, look for glasses which are slightly larger and square in design, which will not accentuate the roundness of your face and which will add profile and angles.
  • Long thin faces - If you have a longer face again, don't opt for narrow slim frame styles, but look for bolder frames which will accentuate and draw attention to your eyes.
  • Heart shaped faces - you are the opposite and should avoid wide and heavy frames as they will accentuate the wideness of your cheekbones - look for some frameless or more delicate styles which will balance out your face.

How You Wear Your Hair Will Change Which Glasses You Choose

  • If you have long hair which you normally wear loose, or that is a major feature around your face you should look for lighter frames which will not draw attention away from your hair and create too "busy" a look.
  • If you have a short hairstyle, or wear your hair tied up away from your face most of the time, you can carry off much heavier or brighter frames as your glasses can be an great accessory and look really stylish.

What Colour Of Frames Will Match Your Skin Tone And Eyes?

  • If you have pale skin then stay away from black frames which can look quite austere and opt for frames in tortoiseshell which still looks trendy.
  • Pale skins can also be drained by silver coloured frames so opt for golden, or darker metal frames.
  • Darker skin and dark eyes can look fantastic in black or silver frames.
  • Choosing frames which match the colour of your eyes can look surprisingly great - see the picture of Cate Blanchett above.
  • If you are lucky enough to have tanned skin along with blond hair or highlights try some black framed glasses - this can look stunning.

Above all you should be comfortable in your glasses, they should suit your personality, and make sure they fit your properly - the optician should ensure that they fit straight on your head and are not too tight which can be uncomfortable and cause headaches.

Top Tips For Choosing Sunglasses

How To Choose The Best Sunglasses For You

Paris Hilton Sunglasses

There are lots of reasons to tog ourselves out with a great pair of sunglasses - we might not be disguising our faces from the flash of the paparazzi camera like many stars today - but they are a great item to accessorize with. They can range from a few pounds to hundreds, they add style to an ordinary outfit, can be matched with other accessories and most importantly provide us with UV protection against those dangerous sun rays which can cause long term damage to our eyes.

Style Tips For Sunglasses This Season

  • For the last few seasons sunglasses have been huge - talk about supersize. But from the catwalks at the end of the last season designers have been inspired to create more refined styles and glasses this season will be much smaller and more funky in style.
  • Look out for styles like Wayfarers or cats-eye style frames - definitely retro and which can be dressed with high-waisted bikinis.
  • Frames are much more colourful - coloured sunglasses can be matched up with your outfit, swimwear or accessories.
  • Although not everyone can afford a designer handbag which may cost thousands of pounds - a pair of  designer sunglasses can be available for £100+ which makes them a great fashion statement without parting with too much of your hard earned cash.

How To Choose A Pair of Sunglasses

  • Most importantly you should make sure your sunglasses, as well as looking great, provide protection against ultraviolet radiation. To protect your eyes you should look for glasses that block 99% to 100% of UV light.
  • Different coloured tints offer different effects - grey lenses reduce brightness but don't distort colours, yellow lenses reduce haziness from blue light so sharpen up your view, rose coloured lenses are great for water sports as they provide great contrast against green and blue backgrounds and brown/amber lenses reduce glare but can distort other colours. Of course, you need to take into consideration whether you really think you will suit glasses with yellow or pink lenses as well.
  • Mirrored sunglasses are great - particularly if you really want to hide behind your glasses - but beware of scratches. As the mirror finish is applied last it's pretty easy to scratch these types of glasses.
  • When choosing glasses consider what you will be most likely to use them for the majority of the time - it could be driving, sports, or simply posing on the beach. All of these different activities might require a different pair or colour of sunglasses.
  • Remember that sunglasses don't have to be expensive to effectively protect your eyes against the sun (in the UK remember to look out for the CE mark which denotes that the sunglasses fulful all EU quality regulations). This means that you can build up a collection of sunglasses which suit every occasion.
