Want To Know How To Wear A Mini Skirt - Just Follow Cameron Diaz's Fashion Tips

Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise at the London premiere of Knight & Day

Cameron Diaz has been hitting the headlines during the last couple of weeks, not only for her car racing talent, which was demonstrated on the BBC's program "Top Gear", but also for the stylish outfits she has been wearing around the globe on her red carpet appearances alongside Tom Cruise for their latest film - Knight and Day. Lets face it, not many girls could get away with wearing a jumper dress on the red carpet, and still manage to exude the glamour and confidence Cameron shows here.

Yes, it's so true that Cameron has the perfect long legs just made for the super short hemlines that she loves to wear but if you've ever wondered if you could get away with wearing some of the tiny skirts and dresses that Cameron loves there are some simple rules to follow, which will have you looking as stylish as Cameron every time.

  • Bare legs look amazing with mini-skirts - our preference is a light, tanned look. If you are worried your legs are too pale or you have imperfections, think about using leg makeup - even Kylie admits she uses body makeup to get the perfect finish. Look for Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs - this is cool little spray which can be sprayed on and blended where needed. You will be amazed that imperfections you worry about go totally unnoticed by everyone else. Wear this look with peep-toe shoes like Cameron here, or with glamorous sandals to show off your legs even more.
  • If you are not brave enough to bare all, or you are feeling the chill factor, a great look is over-knee socks which gives a cheeky style to your outfit. Or choose patterned opaque or fishnet tights, but make sure you wear these styles with flats, rather than high heels or stilettos.
  • If you are wearing a tight, fitted mini skirt, wear a loose style top or shirt, and also vice versa - if you are wearing a flared or gathered mini, then choose a fitted style top. There are some fantastic feminine mini-skirts which are totally on trend at the moment, with wide elastic waistbands in glamorous gold or silver on floaty, gathered skirts.
  • The same sort of rule goes for patterned skirts - go crazy with your minis, wear them patterned with stripes, zig-zags, flowers, circles, in denim, suede or sparkling fabrics, but make sure you keep your top understated and fairly neutral.
  • Cameron is known to love black and white - it's an essential core of her wardrobe - she wore a black and white Vionnet Resort 2011 mini dress with a sash at the French premier of K&D - again a perfect dress to show off tanned legs. Black and white is a classic style, and a mini-dress in black and white with classic black high heeled pumps and accessories is perfect for a more formal occasion.

Have You Seen Scarlett And Her Gorgeous Dark Eyebrows?

Scarlett sporting dark and striking eyebrows

Sigh ... what a relief, maybe it's time to relax a little on the waxing and plucking of our stressed brows and let them have a little more freedom like Scarlett's here. No, I'm not suggesting that wild, bushy eyebrows are the next big thing, but if you look back over the last few seasons on the catwalk, many of the models have been sporting darker, more natural looking eyebrows. Have a look at some of the other celebrities who have taken on the "Brooke Shields" look, such as Megan Fox, Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry.

If you have been waxing or plucking your eyebrows for some time, then you may have to go through a period of regrowth if you want to attempt this look. Eyebrows can take up to six to eight weeks to regrow after they have been plucked out from the root, however, there are some treatments which can help speed up this process.

Massage Your Brows

  • Massaging boosts the circulation of your face, which in turn carries nutrients to your hair follicles. Using a clean eyebrow brush massage your brows gently in the direction of the growth, in the morning when you cleanse, and in the evening when you remove your makeup.

Ensure You Have The Right Vitamins And Minerals

  • Both zinc and silica are good for hair growth, as are vitamins A, C and E.  You could take a good multi-vitamin and mineral supplement, but natural is always the best so boost your intake of:
  • Cheese, eggs, oily fish and liver for Vitamin A
  • Blackcurrants, peppers, strawberries and broccoli for Vitamin C
  • Avocados, tomatoes and sweet potatoes for Vitamin E
  • Wheat germ, pecans and pine nuts for zinc
  • Rice, oats, lettuce and asparagus for silica

Apply Olive Oil To Your Eyebrows To Encourage Them To Grow

  • Use cold pressed, good quality olive oil and apply this with a cotton bud to your brows when you go to bed at night. You must use cold pressed oil, as cold-pressing does not destroy the natural vitamins, minerals and enzymes from the olives and these are the same natural nutrients that your hair needs to grow back into a lush brow. The oil will soak into the follicle, encouraging the hair to become stronger. Castor oil can also be used, but it's much easier to get hold of good olive oil from the supermarket.

What To Do With Your Eyebrows In The Regrowth Period

Your eyebrows may feel a little untidy in the regrowth period when you have lots of baby hairs growing back in.  During this time you can fill in your brows into your desired, fuller shape using an eyebrow pencil, following the tips below

  • Use an eyebrow pencil that is a shade lighter than your natural brow colour.
  • Using light and feathery strokes and a sharp pencil, apply colour to the thinner areas, filling out your eyebrow shape.
  • Add fullness, by applying a mat eye shadow in the same shade as the eyebrow pencil, using a small eye shadow brush, colouring in the natural shape of the brow.
  • Using a clean eyebrow or mascara brush, gently groom the finished brow, giving it a natural look. The finished effect may not be perfect, but it will definitely help get through the rather spiky, untidy regrowth period and give your face a neater and more defined look.

Your hard work will all be worth it when you have lush, defined brows which add definition and structure to your face. Once you have full regrowth you might want to have your brows professionally shaped by a beautician to get the total groomed appearance.

How To Create The Makeup For Lady Gaga's Poker Face

Lady Gaga's Poker Face

Whether you admire Lady Gaga (or Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) for her style and creation of fashion or for her music, both stand out from the crowd. With regards to her music, Lady Gaga is quoted to have said that she doesn't want to sound presumptuous, but she has made it her goal to "revolutionise pop music". She states that "the last revolution was launched by Madonna 25 years ago." Apparently, Madonna is pretty pleased with this statement and says that she sees some of her early self in Lady Gaga. With regards to fashion, Lady Gaga has stated that she is "very into fashion" and that it is "everything" to her. She considers Donatella Versace her muse. Lady Gaga has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally and which creates many of her stage props, clothes and hair styles.

Poker Face

Probably one of Lady Gaga's best known and most viewed pop videos is Poker Face, and the look she created for that song is now almost iconic, with the strong blonde fringe and silver eye shadow. Creating the look is pretty straightforward to try for yourself. You will need the following items:

  • Medium to full cover foundation and loose translucent powder
  • Concealer
  • A shimmering light blue or silver eye shadow
  • Black false eyelashes
  • Black eye liner
  • Rose pink blusher
  • Natural lip gloss and nude lip liner
  • Silver or gold makeup pen and stick on diamantes (optional)
  • Depending on your own hair - a blonde wig with full fringe

How To Create Lady Gaga's Poker Face

  • Step One - apply moisturiser and then foundation to create a perfect base. Use your concealer as needed under the eyes or to cover any blemishes. Using the translucent powder and a powder brush dust to set your foundation lightly.
  • Step Two - Using the silver or shimmering eye shadow and an eyeshadow brush apply the shadow accurately, blending from the inner upper eyelid to the crease-line and beyond and to the outer corner of your eyelid.
  • Step Three - Apply your fake eyelashes to your upper eyelids following the directions on the pack. Once these are firmly in place and applied as close to your natural lashes as possible, apply black eyeliner to the top and bottom lash lines. Lady Gaga does apply black liner to the inner lower lid as well with this look.
  • Step Four - Use black mascara and apply to both top and bottom lashes, applying three coats to your upper lashes and using the mascara to blend together your natural and false lashes.
  • Step Five - Apply the rose powder blusher lightly along your cheekbones, Lady Gaga doesn't sport a full blush look, but using it to high-light your cheekbones brings the look alive.
  • Step Six - Line your lips with the nude lip liner and apply the natural gloss. You need perfect, smooth lips for this look.
  • Step Seven - If you are going for the full Lady Gaga look you can use the silver/gold makeup pen to draw on the lightning bolt on the left side of your face and then use the stick on diamantes for extra glamour.
  • Step Eight - If you are going to wear a wig, wrap up your hair with a hair net and put on the wig. This is probably only going to work if you are going for the full Lady Gaga look, but it will totally finish the look off.

Ten Of The Biggest Makeup Mistakes To Avoid

Jennifer Aniston perfecting the glowing makeup look
  • Oooops - choosing the wrong foundation and concealer. Girls can often pick a foundation colour that is far too light as they remember the old rule "does it match the skin tone along the jaw line". Unfortunately, using this method can often result in a very light shade of foundation when applied over the face leaving the complexion looking washed out and uneven particularly if the skin has darker patches of skin tone or freckles. Choosing a foundation which gives your skin tone a slight golden glow looks youthful and revitalised - think of the natural glow shown off by Jennifer Aniston.
  • Avoid Harsh eyeliner. We love the smoky eye look, but that is a softer, dark and sultry look which is blended along the lashes and into the eyeshadow. Don't be tempted to use eyeliner, especially liquid black eyeliner, to greatly exaggerate the shape of the eyes unless you are creating an OTT party look for a night out. This look for day wear is harsh and false. If you use a liquid liner for your day to day makeup create a thinner line close to the lashes to define the eyes.
  • Don't over emphasise all of your features. The old rule here is true - don't try and make both eyes and lips the main features of your face - it's just too much. Either create dramatic eyes and neutral lips or emphasize your mouth and keep your eye makeup natural.
  • Just too shiny! Remember not to apply too many shimmering products together - unless you are going to a '70s party! Shimmering lipstick does not look good with frosted high-lighters and eyeshadow. Use matte products and finish with one shimmering product, such as a frosted lipstick, or use matte lipstick on the lips and make a feature of your eyes with glittering eyeshadow.
  • Don't apply too much mascara to the lower lashes. Keep it to one natural looking coat of mascara on the lower lashes and be careful until they are dry that they don't smudge onto your skin.
  • Don't use a white high-lighter on your brown bone. This can look very odd - just use a lighter shade of the eye-shadow you have applied over your eyelids, applying it lightly upwards towards the brow bone, but not right up to your eyebrows.
  • Don't make your eyes look smaller. Be careful when applying eyeliner to the inner eyelid, i.e. inside your eyelashes, as this can make your eyes seem much smaller and again looks pretty unnatural. If you have a darker complexion and eyes, then black eyeliner applied in this way can look stunning, but otherwise we don't like this method of application.
  • Don't be a clown. Applying a darker lip liner to the outer contours of your lips and filling in with a lighter shade of lipstick is not a good idea - it's rather like clown lips. It might work for models in a studio for a photo shoot, but in real life it looks pretty fake and your lipstick will generally wear off leaving an unnatural dark line around your lips.
  • Do you look like Aunt Sally? Yes, Aunt Sally was a character in a children's program who had bright rosy cheeks applied in big circles. One of our tips is to apply blusher to the apples of your cheeks, but this should look like a natural blush and be blended - be careful of creating unnatural looking small red circles. Blend from the apples of the cheeks towards the cheekbones.
  • Don't apply lipstick on its own. Applying a swipe of lipstick may seem like a quick fix to brighten up your face, but without any other colour on your face it will look unnatural, harsh and ageing.
  • Do you have makeup lines around your jawline? Always check your jawline after applying your foundation, give it a moment to "settle in" then check your jaw on both sides for any unnatural looking "tidemarks" which just look grubby. Remember to blend foundation into and over your jawline for a natural finish.

Sandra Bullock - Winner Of Best Actress In A Leading Role - Oscars 2010 - Get The Look

Sandra Bullock on the red carpet at the 2010 82nd Annual Academy AwardsSandra Bullock has just had one of the best weekends of her career, by first turning up at the Golden Raspberry Awards (the Razzies) to accept her award for the Worst Actress for her role in All About Steve, where she handed out free copies of her movie in a delightfully comic way before accepting her Oscar for the Best Actress in a Leading Role with an endearing, but slightly batty speech for her part in The Blind Side. SB is an actress that we all seem to have grown up with (who remembers her in Speed and While You Were Sleeping?) and unbelievably, looking at this picture, she turned 45 last year. She looks amazing in this Marchesa silver gown with straight, sleek locks and classic Hollywood makeup, and if you want to create this style yourself here is how Sandra (or her makeup artist - Angela Levin) did it on the night.

The products Angela used on Sandra were:

  • Chanel Hydramax + Active Cream
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Fluid Makeup in Gentle Ivory
  • Chanel Eyeshadow Irreelle Duo Brun Express
  • Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir
  • Chanel Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Rose
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paris
The look can be created easily below:
  • Prep the skin with Hydramax + Active Cream or a similar rich moisturiser which ensures there are no dry areas.
  • Using a foundation brush apply Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Fluid Makeup in Gentle Ivory all over the face. Using a foundation brush ensures a perfect, almost doll like finish, perfect for this Hollywood look.
  • Create quite a strong and structured browline using an eyeshadow brush and the soft brown powder in the Irreelle Duo Brun Express. Using shadow creates strong brows, but it is easier to get a smoother effect than when using a brow pencil.
  • Again, use the darker shadow around the eyes on both upper and lower lids, blending across the upper lid. Use the lighter shade in the palette over the brow blending into the darker shade on the eyelid.
  • Apply two strong coats of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir for real glamorous Hollywood starlet lashes.
  • Using a lip brush apply the Rouge Coco Lip Colour in the shade Paris.  Take note, all girls obsessed with lip glosses, Chanel has just launched a new campaign (with Vanessa Paradis) promoting the benefits and feel good factor of a glamorous lipstick colour - such a great way to brighten up your look with minimal spend in these credit-crunch times.
  • Last of all apply the Chanel Tweed Rose blusher to the apples of the cheeks.
  • Sandra's hair was finished in a sleek style by hairdresser Adir Abergel using Fekkai products, but you can do this yourself, by creating a strong side parting and then using straighteners and adding a soft, modern wave to the ends of the hair.
  • Sandra's Marchesa silver embroidered dress is amazing, and best of all Marchesa are British designers.  Unless you can afford their gowns, a similar look would be a lace or embroidered cream evening dress which is just perfect for summer parties.
