How To Create The Movie Star Look Of Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson's move star makeup

Scarlett Johansson is blessed with a perfect complexion and movie star looks of the old fashioned kind - she has sworn that she will never be pressurised into losing her curves and for someone who is only 24 she carries her sophisticated style very naturally. Her makeup is relatively simple but very effective and is just a perfect look for glamorous parties or nights out. So if you have a cocktail dress or two lying around and you would like your makeup to have the sophistication to match - Scarlett's look is the one to create, especially if you team it with an up-do of softly waving hair and some sparkling hair pins. Just follow these easy steps:

  • Cleanse and Moisturise: A perfect face needs a perfect canvas - cleanse away with a gentle facial scrub to create a complexion as soft as a baby's and then apply your favourite moisturiser and allow to soak in.
  • Foundation: If your skin is perfect then apply only a concealer where needed around the eyes, or if you are not confident without your foundation, apply a light foundation with your fingers or a sponge, ensuring a perfect finish before you proceed to the next step.
  • Eyeshadow: Scarlett often uses coloured eyeshadows, but subtly. Using an eyeshadow brush and a silver-grey shadow, sweep this over the whole of your upper eyelid and blend out towards your eyebrows.
  • Eyeliner: Using a liquid eyeliner in black or dark brown sweep the liner from the inner third of your upper eye-lid to the outer corners of your eye making the line wider as you go. A steady hand is needed and you might want to practice this beforehand if you are not used to applying this kind of eyeliner. No eyeliner is applied to the bottom lid.
  • Mascara: Using a shade which matches your eyeliner, apply two generous coats to your top eyelashes, and finish your lower lashes with one coat of mascara - the emphasis is on the upper lashes to create a glamorous look.
  • Blusher: Using a large round blusher brush, apply a rose pink powder blusher along your cheekbones finishing on the apples of your cheeks.
  • Powder: With a translucent powder and a large powder brush set your makeup and also create a "finished" look - you are nearly there now.
  • Lipcolour: Using a plummy pink lipstick carefully fill in your lips with a long-lasting lipstick and then finish this off with a clear gloss.

Are You Feeling Pale This Winter - Follow These Make Up Tips To Create A Rosy & Glowing Complexion

It's that time of year after the festivities are over and we are waiting for Spring to appear on the horizon. This is sometimes the season of feeling a bit under-the-weather and as they say "If you look good you feel good" so here are some tips to help create a rosy glowing complexion to brighten your day.

  • This involves using blusher in your chosen shade, which can be either powder or cream, whichever is your personal preference.
  • Apply the blusher after applying foundation or straight onto your cleansed and moisturised skin, depending on your make up routine and whether you are applying day or night-time make up.
  • Smile at yourself in the mirror - smiling even when you don't really feel like it releases endorphins, seratonin and natural pain killers - ie natural drugs that make us feel better and which strengthen our immune system.
  • Whilst you are smiling (which makes the apples of your cheeks more prominent) take note that this is where the sun would naturally sun-kiss your cheeks.
  • Using a powder blusher and a large, soft brush apply this to your blusher pot and then brush lightly onto the skin in one direction starting with the apples of your cheeks and working upwards and outwards along your cheekbones. Don't apply too much colour in one area as a subtle glow is the aim.
  • If you are using a cream or gel blusher, use your fingers (which I find more controllable than a sponge) and apply in semi-circular motions starting again with the apples of your cheeks and working away along your cheekbones.

How To Apply Some Sparkle For The Christmas and New Year Parties

Vanessa Hudgen's perfect shimmering eyes

There has been so much emphasis on smokey eye make up recently that it's a perfect opportunity over the holiday season to go to the opposite end of the colour spectrum and apply shimmering, silvery shades which will suit all complexions from light to dark.

Ideally you should start off by applying a flawless foundation which suits your natural shade - look for some of the new mineral foundations which are available that blend perfectly. Then follow these tips for a sparkling glow.

  • Using a rose pink blusher, smooth this from the apples of your cheeks upwards and outwards along your cheekbones.
  • Next, using an eyeshadow brush, apply a shimmery wash of silver shadow powder over your eyelids, working it in up to your browbone, blending in well. Take the colour into the inner corner of your eye, and then along your lower lid.
  • Using a black mascara, give your lashes two thorough coats, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second.
  • If you want your look to be more dramatic, apply black kohl eyeliner along your lower lashes before applying mascara.
  • For your lips, apply a baby pink lipstick or lipgloss which will allow your eyes to be the centre of attention. Unless you have a darker complexion where you can wear plums or reds with this look, darker shades of lipstick will look slightly dated.

This look is fantastic with a hair up-do and a party frock, and once you have practised blending in your eyeshadow, it's pretty easy to do as well.

Top Tips For Applying Blusher

Tips For Applying Blusher With A Professional Finish

Many women avoid applying blusher as they aren't really sure how to apply it properly and they are afraid it will look false and too bright. However, if blusher is applied in the correct shade and in the right way it can perform miracles and make a washed out complexion glow. Here are some simple tips to follow.

Powders, Creams Or Liquids?

  • First of all decide whether you are going to use a powder, cream or liquid blusher.
  • This will depend on your skin type - normal to oily skins are better with a powder blusher, whilst dryer or more mature skins will suit a cream or liquid blusher which are less likely to accentuate any tiny lines.
  • Applying Your Blusher

  • Invest in a large blusher brush with soft bristles if you are using a powder blush, the tiny ones which are supplied with these blushers are not really any use.
  • Your powder blusher should be the last item of makeup you apply before powder. However, if you are applying a cream or liquid blusher you might want to apply this as your last item of makeup as it gives a dewy, glowing finish.
  • How To Find The Right Shade Of Blusher For You

  • A great tip for finding the right shade of blusher is to match it to the shade of your lips, but if you find this difficult a general guide is that a light complexion looks great with rose pink, olive skins love peach shades and darker skins suit apricot shades.
  • Where To Apply Your Blusher

  • Give yourself a lovely smile in the mirror and you will immediately see the "apples" of your cheeks - this is the area where you should apply your blusher to give a healthy and glowing appearance - remember to use a light touch though as you don't want to end up with two pink circles on each cheek.
  • Whether To Use a Bronzer?

  • As a finishing touch you might want to lightly brush some bronzer over your cheekbones and brow and lightly down your nose to give a touch of sunshine to your face.

If you know of any new products or have any different tips for applying blusher or bronzers please share all by leaving your comments.

How To Wear Pink fashion

Most girls love pink, but sometimes it's easy to shy away from applying pink fashion to anywhere apart from the lips. However, at the spring and summer catwalk shows this season many of the models were sporting pink eyeshadows, candy pink blushers and many shades of pink on the lips, so here are some helpful tips on how to be sweet in pink without going over the top into Barbie territory.

Tips For Applying Pink Eyeshadow

  • If wearing pink eyeshadow, then stick with just the eyeshadow - you will certainly be looking embarassed if you go all out for the pink blusher and lipstick to match.
  • To avoid a pink eyeshadow making you look tired or washed out look for an eyeshadow with golden undertones or blend a gold eyeshadow with your pink shad - this combination will suit anyone, even those with paler complexions.
  • Avoid applying too much purply-pink shadow around the eyes with a heavy hand or you could end up with a bruised look rather than a glamourous one.
  • As long as you apply the shadow lightly over the lid, fading out towards the brow you will look gorgeous. If you want a more dramatic look then you could go the whole hog and go for smoky eyes and apply some pink false lashes.

Tips for Pink Lips

  • Pale pink colour on the lips looks fabulous with a glossy finish, but stick with a more matt finish for darker or fuschia coloured pinks.
  • The application of a pale pink plumping lipgloss can transform thinner lips into something much more luscious.
  • Wearing a darker fuschia lipstick in a matt finish can look tremendously chic - however it needs to be applied with precision (see the earlier blog on the Long Lasting Lipstick - 10 Top Tips).

Tips For Applying Pink Blusher

  • Brushing a pink powder blusher over the apples of the cheeks will give a fresh and wholesome look.
  • The application of a pink creme blusher along the cheekbones will give a dewy touch to your complexion and bring life to even the palest complexions.
