A Very Easy Trend To Wear For Work Or Play - Slimline Pants and Tunics

Just Cavalli tunic and trousers

I'm just loving this new style which hit the catwalks for Autumn 2008 which is for long and lean tunic tops with skinny pants - they are so easy to wear and can hide a multitude of sins by covering up your bum, and lengthening legs when worn with high heels.

Tips For Choosing and Wearing A Tunic Top

  • Whichever tunic you pick should never be longer than mid-thigh length as it will become out of proportion, and you will look more like you are wearing a dress.
  • I love tunics worn with slimline pants, but it's up to you - if you don't feel comfortable in skinny trousers, look for flared or wide leg trousers or pants with cropped hemlines.
  • Wear your tunic with a belt for a more fitted style which gives definition where needed.
  • Simple designs lend themselves to extravagant fabrics, such as hand beaded silk tunics, leather or fur lined for a super luxurious winter tunic.
  • Whatever your body shape, a tunic with pants outfit will suit everyone, and it's incredibly practical for workwear which turns easily into an outfit for going out in the evening with the addition of accessories, such as a sparkly belt, scarf or chunky jewellery.

If you have seen any great tunics on the high-street let us know where they are and we'll be out to shop for this fantastic, easy to wear, latest trendy item.

How To Apply False Nails At Home To Create A Professional Manicured Look

There are so many different styles of false nails available today that you can create your own perfectly manicured look at home. As long as you apply your nails carefully, following the instructions from the manufacturer, and you don't try to remove them without thoroughly soaking them in nail polish remover to soften them, you will not damage your own nails - they can even grow whilst the false nails are on as they will protect your natural nails from breakage.

How To Apply False Nails

  • Check that you have both nails and glue in the pack that you have bought - some nail packs do not have glue included and you can buy this separately. Be very careful with the glue - it has the strength and stickiness of superglue.
  • Go through the nail pack and lay out the nails in order for each hand which match in size to your natural nails for each finger. Ideally, spread out some kitchen-towel on a table top and lay the nails down on these - preparation for when the glue is involved so that it doesn't damage your table surface.
  • Make sure your own nails are clean, oil free, the cuticles are tidy and pushed back and ideally your nails will be filed short and neat.
  • Starting with your left hand if you are right handed and vice versa, start applying the false nails by starting with the thumb of the hand.
  • Pick up the nail using the tip (some false nails have small tabs on the tip to hold them with which can be filed off once applied) and apply the nail glue evenly over the surface of the nail which is to be attached to your own nail.
  • Place the false nail carefully over your own - remember the glue is very strong so try and position it exactly where you want it, as close to your cuticle as possible, without sticking the nail onto your skin.
  • Carefully and gently press down on the nail to remove any air bubbles - the better the nail fits the less likely you are to get air bubbles under the false nail.
  • The glue will take hold almost immediately, and once you have completed the first nail, continue along to your little finger, and then do the same with your other hand. Your second hand may be more difficult, and it may be useful to have a friend available if you are not confident, but generally it's quite easy to do both hands yourself.
  • If you had tabs on your nails now is the time to file them away and then admire your handiwork.

I particularly like the air brushed French Polish style nails that you can easily get hold of in stores such as Boots, Superdrug etc, but there are lots of other styles that are available such as nails that have been pre-coloured in your favourite nail polish shades (believe me the dark shades chip much less than dark polish on your natural nails), or nails which are decorated in lots of amazing styles - some even with built in sparkle.

Removing False Nails At Home

This is where you need to be very careful not to force the false nails away from your own natural nails as you can cause damage to the nail bed or just weaken your nails and/or damage the surface of them which looks unsightly. The best way is to use nail-polish remover which contains acetone. Pour this into a small bowl and soak your nails in the acetone remover for around 10 minutes. The false nail will become soft and pliable and should easily come away from your natural nail. Do not pull or force the nail as this is just asking for trouble. If you have any doubts at all about removing your false nails go and visit a professional beautician who will do it for you - and you can get a manicure for your natural nails at the same time.

How To Pick Out The Best Style Of Glasses For You

Cate Blanchett wearing blue framed glasses

I recently went for a bi-yearly eye test at one of our more popular opticians and was amazed to find out when chatting with the optician that almost two-thirds of the adult population wear glasses or contact lenses - in the main glasses! Having a look at some of the designer ranges they stocked, I was actually just that little, tiny bit disappointed when the optician confirmed that my eyes were healthy and my eyesight satisfactory without the addition of some great designer accessory that now passes as the ordinary and everyday pair of glasses. Picking glasses out from the amazing array of styles available is not always an easy choice though and here are some great tips that will help you choose the right style for you.

Different Face Shapes Suit Different Styles of Glasses

  • Oval faces - You may have the perfect, symmetrical oval face and if this the case you may be a model and practically every style should suit you.
  • Round faces - Although smaller glasses are trendy at the moment, look for glasses which are slightly larger and square in design, which will not accentuate the roundness of your face and which will add profile and angles.
  • Long thin faces - If you have a longer face again, don't opt for narrow slim frame styles, but look for bolder frames which will accentuate and draw attention to your eyes.
  • Heart shaped faces - you are the opposite and should avoid wide and heavy frames as they will accentuate the wideness of your cheekbones - look for some frameless or more delicate styles which will balance out your face.

How You Wear Your Hair Will Change Which Glasses You Choose

  • If you have long hair which you normally wear loose, or that is a major feature around your face you should look for lighter frames which will not draw attention away from your hair and create too "busy" a look.
  • If you have a short hairstyle, or wear your hair tied up away from your face most of the time, you can carry off much heavier or brighter frames as your glasses can be an great accessory and look really stylish.

What Colour Of Frames Will Match Your Skin Tone And Eyes?

  • If you have pale skin then stay away from black frames which can look quite austere and opt for frames in tortoiseshell which still looks trendy.
  • Pale skins can also be drained by silver coloured frames so opt for golden, or darker metal frames.
  • Darker skin and dark eyes can look fantastic in black or silver frames.
  • Choosing frames which match the colour of your eyes can look surprisingly great - see the picture of Cate Blanchett above.
  • If you are lucky enough to have tanned skin along with blond hair or highlights try some black framed glasses - this can look stunning.

Above all you should be comfortable in your glasses, they should suit your personality, and make sure they fit your properly - the optician should ensure that they fit straight on your head and are not too tight which can be uncomfortable and cause headaches.
